Introducing anti-corruption measures at universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina

With a view to contribute to improvement of the civil society's role in the promoting of rights and in democratic reforms in BiH, and in line with the guidelines on EU integrations, Vesta from Tuzla, in cooperation with the Youth Communicatio Centre (OKC – Omladinski komunikacioni centar) from Banja Luka, is implementing the project Introducing anti-corruption measures at universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This project will be implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the universities of Tuzla and Banja Luka, in the course of 2011 and 2012.

Objectives

Ensure that students of Tuzla and Banja Luka universities have an efficient system for detection and systematic addressing of this problem.

Ensure that, by 2012, these two universities have an adopted Program of measues for prevention of and combating corruption, with all the concerned parties participating in its creation.

Activities

- training workshops

- analysis of current situation and research

- pubishing and promoting the research results

- media campaign, on the importance of preventing corruption, using educational radio jingles, radio and TV shows, public events in Banja Luka and Tuzla, and the web portal

- Creation of the Program of measres combatting corruption at universities

- Initiation of the procedure for formal inclusion of the Program into the systems of Banja Luka and Tuzla universities

Exchange of information and addressing the problem of corruption at universities will also be facilitated at the platform www.antikorupcija.ba

Expected results

For students:

- Acquired knowledges about the forms of corruption and possible ways of its suppression at universities

- Procedures for the reporting and confronting corruption, without fear of damaging consequences for studnets

- Improved capacities to self-organise and jointly combat corruption

For professors and management:

- confronting corruption cases without pressure

- participatory development of mechanisms to combat corruption

- created and adopted procedures for confronting persons who are encouraging corruption
