Workshop for youth held – „Active citizens“
Workshop for youth, entitled „Active citizens“, took place at „Senad of Bosne“ Hotel in Lukavac, from 5 to 7 March 2012. Vesta Association organised the workshop, with the financial support of the UK Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. More thatn 30 young people from North-Eastern BiH participated.
The workshop for youth is organised within British Council's program „Active citizens“. This is a program of intercultural dialogue and global social networking. The Program's vision is a world in which youth recognises its potential and works with others to promote and develop their communities at the local and international level.
Program „Activ citizens“ has four elements
Workshops for youth in two 3-day interactive modules, covering the theme such as: identity, social participation, efficient management of differences, communication skills, planning and implementation of projects. The Program encourages young people to become and remain active in their communities, to gain a unique experience which will help develop their leadership skills. Successful participants are becoming Motivators for continued work in their respective communities.
• The workshops are scheduled on 5-7 March 2012(held in Lukavac) and 27-29 March 2012.
• Motivators are then organising cascading workshops with groups of student sin their local community or organisation.
• Motivators and students are developing project proposals for social action, which they will submit to their local communities as creative solutions to existing problems. The British Council and its partners will support the most successful project proposals.
• International networking offers to participants a possibility to become a part o fan international conference of Active citizens, and all participants are becoming a part of the Active Citizens Network.
Partner approach
British Council is implementing the Active Citizens program in over 30 countries worls wide, in cooperation with local partners. The program's achievements in BIH to date are:
• 65 Motivators from more than 30 communities
• Over 400 participants of cascading workshops
• Over 300 volunteers in 16 projects
• 24 working/study visits from BiH with other participating countries
